Linguistics & Phonetics is a two-term module for second-year students that provides a comprehensive foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of linguistics. In the third term, Linguistics 3 establishes the core principles of linguistic analysis—covering phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics—with a focus on precise terminology to prepare for advanced study. Simultaneously, Phonetics S3 offers a practical focus on the English sound system, examining word stress, weak forms, phonemic transcription, and fundamentals of connected speech such as assimilation and elision.
