B/ Course Description

            This course aims at helping students develop skills and confidence needed to respond to university lectures and daily life conversations in English. A large portion of class time will be devoted to improving students’ fluency, listening & speaking, and critical thinking, covering various topics. It provides a practical interweaving of communication theory, principle and practice as it explores many of the communication situations the student encounters in his or her career, and personal relationships. The course instructor follows the evaluation matrix according to the set rubric for the course to make the evaluation process more transparent. After each set of presentations, there will be a general discussion and feedback session that highlights problems and areas for improvement.

             

C/ Course Objectives

      By successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

·         Identify their personal communication style and communication strengths and weaknesses

·         Effectively communicate ideas in small groups and team meetings

·         Develop and give short informative and persuasive presentations

·         Analyze an audience and adjust communication style and delivery accordingly

·         Recognize how body language and other non-verbal cues communicate unconscious messages

·         Identify several techniques for improving their listening, response, and feedback skills

·         Demonstrate improved ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings including the home, the workplace, and academic environments
