Effective presentation skills are essential for success in college-level coursework and after graduation in a highly competitive job market. This is an entry level skills-based course covering the fundamentals of informative and persuasive presentation development and delivery. This course introduces students to what oral presentation is. Emphasis is on public speaking with attention to audience analysis, organizational, and delivery skills. The controlled and supportive classroom environment is an ideal setting for students to practice and perfect those communication skills of effective speaking.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Speak with confidence.
2. Deliver and reflect on oral presentations: impromptu, informative and persuasive.
3. Reflect on their verbal and non-verbal communication skills
4. Understand how to deal with questions from the audience.
5. Engage in discussion, to acquire, develop, and challenge ideas, even in the face of disagreement.
